- Northeast Hires Christensen As New Football Coach
By Jeff Motz
Lawrence "Bump" Christensen will be the new head football coach at Lincoln Northeast starting this fall.
Christensen was announced Friday as the new leader for the Rockets, replacing Justin Smith, who left to take a coaching job in his home state of Iowa.
A news release from the Northeast Athletic Department says Christensen's knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for working with students and coaching football are very evident. The past seven years, he has been an assistant football coach and defensive coordinator at Lincoln High for head coaches Mike Fultz and Mark Macke.
Prior to moving to Lincoln, Christensen coached linebackers at Wayne State and tight ends at Minnesota State-Moorhead.
Smith heads to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, after compiling a 17-19 mark in four years at Northeast. Prior to coming to Lincoln, Smith coached at Class C2 power Wakefield, guiding them to state titles in 2006 and 2007.
