- DISTRICT SOCCER: Southwest Girls Head To State, Upsets Marian
Lincoln Southwest upset previously undefeated Omaha Marian 2-0 in the Class A-1 District girls soccer championship game yesterday in Omaha. It was not only the first loss for Marian, the defending state champion, it was the first time anyone had scored on the Crusaders this season. Southwest will advance to the girls state tournament with a 13-5 record, and could meet Marian in the first round.
In other girls play yesterday, the consolidation of Lincoln Lutheran and Raymond Central edged Norris 1-0 in the B-1 district. Lincoln Lutheran/Raymond Central advances to state in Class B.
In boys district A-3 action, Creighton Prep 4, Lincoln East 1. The A-1 district final matching Grand Island and Lincoln North Star was postponed because of snow in Grand Island. The rest of the boys and girls district soccer championships are scheduled to be played Thursday.
