Jake Nannen happened to be in the right place at the right time. The 6-4 sophomore stole an inbounds pass for a score and hit a layup off another steal late to help boost Lincoln Southeast over Class A No. 4 Norfolk 57-54 Saturday night at the Prasch Activities Center.
Norfolk's Jalen Bradley scored four points and then fed Alex Starkel that put the Panthers up 48-44 in the fourth quarter. Southeast responded with Derrius Vick hit a layup and made two free-throws, followed by Nannen with his first steal and basket to give the Knights a 50-48 lead.
Bradley, who led Norfolk with 23 points, hit four more free-throws, before a B.J. Day basket for Southeast. Bradley then found Starkel again inside for the Panthers final basket of the game and a 54-52 lead with just over 1:30 left.
A free throw from Vick and Nannen's second steal and layup made it 55-54 Southeast. Norfolk's opportunity to take the lead failed off a missed shot from Bradley with 20 seconds left. Vick was fouled and hit a pair of free throws and Bradley's three-point attempt bounced off the rim at the buzzer.
Vick led Southeast with 23 points. At no point in the game was it out of reach for either team. Southeast led 14-10 after one, then 28-26 at halftime. Norfolk had a 40-35 lead toward the end of the third when the Knights went on a 7-2 run to finish the quarter behind a layup from Vick, a three-pointer from Ryan Sievers and Tanner Morton's basket to force a 42-42 tie.
Cody Charlton added 12 points for Southeast, while Starkel added 17 points for Norfolk.
