Lincoln----Isaiah Bockelman knows how to work under pressure. The Lincoln Lutheran sophomore quarterback helped put together a 69-yard drive that ended with him scoring on a 20-yard run and ultimately give the Warriors a 14-13 win over Lincoln Christian to bring home the Spirit Sword Friday night at Nebraska Wesleyan's Abel Stadium.
During the final scoring drive, Bockelman hooked up on a 23-yard pass to Michael Tewes and followed it up by going to Dan Ebert on the ground, who pushed the ball through the middle of the Christian defense.
The first half was nothing but good ol' fashioned defense, with both teams scoreless at halftime. But Lutheran took charge with 7:27 left in the 3rd quarter when Bockelman hit receiver Conner Shelton on a 50-yard pass for a touchdown to go up 7-0. On the ensuing drive, Christian put together a solid drive of their own that was capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Devin Paulsen to Austin Mathers. That tied up the game at 7 with 2:36 left in the 3rd.
Paulsen and Mathers would hook up again, this time for a 45-yard toss and Mathers had to shake off three tackles before getting into the end zone. Steve Christensen's extra point attempt went wide left, which left Christian with a 13-7 lead with 9:42 to go in the game.
After Lutheran's drive to score, Christian drove deep into Warrior territory, but a pass from Paulsen was intercepted by Adrian Zieg and Lutheran held on to the ball and sealed the win.
Bockelman finished with 142 passing yard and 91 on the ground for Lutheran.
