12/17/2004 - Big second half leads Spartans to victory over Islanders
After leading 19-17 after the firsst quarter and trailing 31-29 at halftime, Lincoln East managed to keep their full-court press alive in the second half to stymie Grand Island Thursday night. The Spartans outscored the Islanders 41-20 in the second half enroute to a 70-52 victory at East High School. Grand Island led at the half 31-29, thanks to the hot shooting of Mitch Carstens, who had all of his 15 first half points behind the arc. East was too much at times for GI the rest of the ballgame, executing their full-court press and coming up with big steals and baskets. Drew Dahlin and Matt Newman paced the 3-2 Spartans with 18 points each and Jim Ebke added 11 for East. Grand Island's Carstens finished with 19 points to lead all scorers. The Islanders fell to 1-4.
