- Northeast boys hammer East High

The weekend wasn't a total loss for the Lincoln Northeast boys basketball team. After getting upset by ninth-ranked Lincoln Southwest on Thursday, the for now first-ranked Rockets rebounded in pretty good fashion with a 74-54 victory of Lincoln East at the East High Gym Saturday night. Northeast (17-1) was slow to start the game as East's Jim Ebke and Tyler McManaman helped the Spartans out to an early lead.
But the Rockets got hot and took charge the rest of the way, leading 33-30 at halftime. Over a seven minute period through the second and third quarters, Northeast went on a 18-0 run before pulling away in the second half. Rocket center Wendell Faines had a career night with 34 points and 16 rebounds, while Super-Stater Andrew Bridger finished with 14 points on the night for Northeast. East's Matt Newman had 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Ebke and McManaman contributed with 13 points each. The Spartans fall to 7-10 on the year.
