By Lincoln Prep Sports.com staff

It's been a school year of firsts at Lincoln Southeast High School in athletic competition. The Silverhawk football team falls one victory short of capturing their first state championship in school history and on Thursday night they recorded their first upset of a number one team in Boys Basketball, while improving record as the best ever in the four-year history of the school. Southwest used a mix of defense and controlling the basketball on offense to hand Class A No. 1 rated Lincoln Northeast their first loss of the year by the final of 61-55 before nearly 2,000 fans at Southwest High School.

The 'Hawks outscored the Rockets 20-3 from the free throw line for the game and relied heavily on the balanced play from 6-8 postman Dylan Aylward and 6-3 forward Ian Dike to seal the win. Northeast had led by as much as 10 points before trailing Southwest 32-28 at halftime. Southwest took the lead for good with a little over 5:30 remaining in the game and sealed it with free throws from guard Matt Niazi and reserve post player Sean Yost. Both Aylward and Dike each scored 17 points in the Southwest win, while Yost contributed with 12 points off the bench. Super-stater Andrew Bridger led Northeast with 15 points, while Wendell Faines added 14 points and Jerry Vaughn-Taylor finished with 13 points.
