The last few weeks have been rough for the Lincoln East boys basketball team. Toward the middle part of December, senior point guard Kendell Frantz suffered a broken right wrist that has sidelined him forcing the Spartans to shuffle their lineup. After a couple weeks of sampling, East was still facing an uphill climb after five straight losses heading into their matchup with Council Bluffs Abe Lincoln Thursday night. It proved to be the game for the Spartans to fine-tune their offense, as they sprinted to a 64-41 win over the Lynx at the East Gym.
East lead 14-8 after the first quarter, which saw Mack Grantham nail a three right before the buzzer. Abe Lincoln would give pursuit to the Spartans, but turnovers would become a factor in the second quarter and East maintained a 23-15 lead at halftime.
East broke open the third quarter with quick baskets from Jim Ebke, Matt Newman and Tyler McManaman, boosting the lead to 42-28 after three quarters. But the Spartans never looked back in the fourth quarter and used their quick guards, Ebke and Andrew Tomasek, to extend the lead further and finish off the Lynx.
McManaman led East with 14 points, while Ebke and Newman each added 11 and Grantham finished with 10 points. Abe Lincoln's Mike Allmon led all scorers with 22 points.
