By Jeff Motz

B.J. Day stepped up to the line and knocked them down.

The 6-4 Lincoln Southeast senior center hit 11 free throws in the two overtime periods to help the Class A eighth-ranked Knights to a 78-72 victory over No. 6 Omaha Creighton Prep Saturday night at the Prasch Activities Center.

Seven of Day's free throws came in the second and decisive overtime period, hitting the first two with 2:42 left for a 70-68 Southeast lead.  The Knights (3-1) stole the ball back from the Junior Jays off an in-bounds pass and Day drew another foul and hit two free throws with 2:12 left.

Senior guard Danny Clare extended Southeast's lead with a free throw and Luke Gifford added a charity toss, before Day finished out the scoring by sinking four more free throws to seal the win.

Prep (3-1) had a 54-47 lead with 2:40 left to play in regulation, after a Tommy Pritchard three-pointer.  Southeast turned the tide when Day scored on a basket with 1:53 left.  Danny Clare missed a layup for the Knights and after Prep got the rebound, Trey Beamon stole the back and scored to closed the deficit to 54-51 with 1:20 remaining.

Jason Allbery hit the front end of a one-and-one with 58 seconds left for the Junior Jays, but Beamon hit a three-pointer to pull Southeast to within one at 55-54.  A quick Prep turnover gave Southeast the ball back and Day scored to give the Knights at 56-55 lead with 38 seconds left.

Day later hit two free throws for a 58-55 lead with 20 seconds to play.  But Allbery hit a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to tied the game at 58 and ultimately force the first overtime.

After Day hit one of two free throws, Prep scored off a basket from Pat Broderick. Then Chad Witecy, who led Prep with 23 points, added two free throws for a 62-59 Junior Jay lead with 2:30 left in the first overtime.

Broderick added a free throw for Prep, followed by Day hitting the second of two free throw attempts to close the cap for the Knights.  Prep extended the lead to two possessions when Broderick hit another free throw, with Southeast trailing 64-60.

Southeast then got a five-point swing when Day added two free throws and a steal on the in-bounds pass from Brady Blazek set up a the go ahead three-pointer from Beamon for a 65-64 Southeast lead with 50 seconds left.

After two Prep free throws, Beamon hit another three-pointer that helped Southeast regain the lead with 20 seconds remaining.  Allbery's two free throws tied the game at 68 with 12 seconds left, leading into the second overtime.
