Trey Carr chose the right place at the right time to spark a comeback for Omaha Burke.
The 5-10 junior guard hit a 30-foot buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter and scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to lead a Bulldog rally for a 58-48 victory over Lincoln North Star Friday night at The Swamp.
The Bulldogs (8-8) outscored the Navigators 45-20 in the second half, after trailing 28-13 at halftime.
Carr got help from Burke teammates Kevin Clayton and Rashad McCoy to open up the second half. McCoy hit a three and Clayton scored layups on three straight possessions that pulled the Bulldogs to within eight at 30-22 with 6:00 left remaining in the third quarter.
As Burke's shooting kept improving, North Star's hot shooting from the first half went cold instantly. After Connor Musiel's basket with 3:25 remaining in the third, the Gators (10-7) got a three-pointer from Noah Housh with a minute left. North Star had the ball as time wined down, but a loose ball allowed Carr to scoop the ball up in and launched the buzzer beater, as Burke trailed 36-30.
Carr opened up the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to close the gap to one possession and hit a pair of free-throws help the Bulldogs narrow the deficit to 36-35.
North Star countered with a free throw from Musiel and Burke took the lead off a Carr three-pointer, followed by a McCoy tray. Carr added two more free throws to give the Bulldogs a 43-37 lead with 3:32 left to play.
Housh hit two free throws with 3:24 left that pulled North Star to within four at 43-39.
On the next Gator possession, Musiel was called for his fifth foul on McCoy, after he collided with Carr. Both players got tangled up after the play and Musiel was whistled for a technical foul. Burke converted on four free throws from McCoy and Clayton scored on a layup all within the same possession for a 51-39 lead with 2:10 remaining.
McCoy added 15 points and Clayton chipped in 13 points for Burke.
Housh led North Star with 17 points and Nate Tederman, who played quality minutes, finished with 10.
