OMAHA---Four of the game-high eight three-pointers for Omaha Creighton Prep came in the first quarter against Lincoln East.

The Class A eighth-ranked Junior Jays (2-1) used outside shooting to capitalize early and defeated the Spartans 61-48 Saturday night at Prep's Heider Center.

It took an 8-2 start from East with 5:01 left to force Prep coach Josh Luedtke to call time out and regroup.

Prep's 6-4 freshman forward Drew Homa hit three treys as part of a 9-0 stretch in the first quarter to give the Junior Jays an 11-8 advantage.  East (2-2) got a basket from Mike Rilett, then Pat Kirby hit a three to give Prep a 14-12 first quarter lead.

The Spartans got to within one, off a free throw from Jacob Dunning.   Kirby responded for the Junior Jays with another three to start an 11-1 run and hit another trey, after Alex Allbery found Kirk Kudlacz underneath for a basket.  After an East time out, Kudlacz hit a free throw and Kevin Dineen drove the middle of the lane for a 25-13 Prep lead with 4:32 left.

East countered with a 9-3 run to end the half, off a basket from Bryan Reimers, then Clayton Shepard scored on a reverse layup and Connor Long hit a three after Kudlacz' basket for Prep.  Jason Allbery hit a free throw for the Junior Jays, before East scored again on a basket from Dunning.

Prep led 43-33 after three quarters, with Dineen scoring 11 of his game-high 15 points.  Homa finished with 12 points, while Kirby and Kudlacz each added 11 points in the victory.

Long led East with 14 points.
