01/05/2012 - BOYS BASKETBALL: Strong 2nd Quarter Propels Titans Over Vikings

By Jeff Motz

WAVERLY---When it rains, it pours.  That was a good thing for the Norris boys basketball team Thursday night.  Back to back three-pointers from Dylan Bohlke and Jason Willet sparked a 20-2 second quarter run, as the Titans sprinted to a 60-38 win over Waverly at Waverly High School.

The shutout in the second quarter was spoiled, when Waverly's Erik Evans hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left.  Norris led 34-13 at halftime.  Waverly committed 11 first half turnovers and shot 26 percent from the field, thanks to Norris' full-court pressure.

A 13-4 run led by Brandon Janssen and a pair of threes from Nigel Stephenson and Josh Nunnally pulled Waverly to within 12 at 38-26 with 3:05 left in the third quarter.

Norris pulled away in the fourth quarter, out scoring the Vikings 15-12, to seal the win.

Jakson Reetz led Norris (4-4) with 15 points, while Bohlke added 14 points.  Janssen led Waverly (3-4) with 15 points and Sam Tewes added 10 points in the loss.
