By Jeff Motz
JOHNSON---Archie Keebler was in the right spot at the right time.
The 6-2 Sterling senior hit the go ahead three-pointer and the Jets capitalized on some free throws late to complete a fourth quarter rally and earn a 49-46 victory over Johnson-Brock, in a boys basketball game at Johnson-Brock.
With Johnson-Brock ahead 42-36, Ceaton Malone hit a three-pointer with 4:31 left, then Michael Lucas scored on layup on the next Sterling possession. Kody Benson hit a free throw to tie the game at 42 with 2:39 to go. Keebler's three gave the Jets a 45-42 lead with 2:07 remaining.
Benson added another free throw with 1:13 left for a 46-42 Sterling lead, but Kyler Jones helped trimmed the Johnson-Brock deficit by hitting a basket to close the gap to two. Jones immediately committed his fifth foul, and Malone sank two more free throws for a 48-44 Sterling lead with 49 seconds left.
Malone added another free throw with 22 seconds left to seal the win for the Jets.
It was an uphill climb for Sterling, after Johnson-Brock (4-5) went on a 17-6 scoring run in the third quarter for a 36-32 lead. Senior Kale Wolken scored nine of his game high 29 points during the period, which saw the Eagles match up in a full-court press and force turnovers.
