- HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: JETS FLY HIGH PAST MERIDIAN

STERLING---A mismatch would be an understatement to describe the Sterling boys basketball team's game with Meridian. It proved to be the case early and the Jets took off for a 63-23 win Tuesday night over the Mustangs.
Sterling guard Colin VanGroningen and center Kody Benson helped the Jets sprint out to a 19-0 lead, before Cody Nolte sank two free-throws for Meridian's first points of the game with 2:46 left in the first quarter. By halftime, Sterling's lead increased to 35-12.
The Jets put the game way out of reach in the third quarter, by outscoring the Mustangs 15-2 for a 50-14 lead.
VanGroningen and Benson each scored 16 points to lead Sterling, while Michael Lucas added 10 points. Meridian was led by Kyle Schwisow's seven points.
STERLING GIRLS 34, MERIDIAN 18
Junior Jenna Nieveen nearly outscored the entire Meridian girls team with a game-high 16 points to help the Lady Jets to another victory. Sterling outscored the Mustangs 11-2 in the final quarter to pull away.
Jordan Lempka added seven points for Sterling. Ashley Hansel and Blair Hofstetter each scored six points for Meridian.
