- LES GAME OF THE WEEK: SOUTHEAST OUTLASTS PREP IN OVERTIME
By Jeff Motz
Free throws and key baskets down the stretch saved the bacon for Lincoln Southeast and hold off Omaha Creighton Prep 62-58 in overtime Friday night at the Prasch Activities Center.
After the Knights zipped out to a 44-33 lead in the third quarter, Prep came back in the fourth quarter behind the shooting of Kevin Dineen and Joe Jasnowski to tie the game at 50 with just two minutes left. The Junior Jays went ahead 52-50 with under a minute left off a layup from Jasnowski.
The Knights got crucial free throws from Najee Jackson with 48 seconds left in regulation and neither team could score after several chances before the buzzer.
Just like the third quarter, Southeast took command in overtime. B.J. Day and Will Weber each scored off layups and Jake Nannen hit a three-pointer for a 59-54 lead.
Day was in foul trouble for most of the game and finished with five points. But Tanner Morton came off the bench for Southeast (1-0) to score 10 points. Nannen led the Knights with 13 points, while Ryan Sievers and Will Weber each added 10.
Southeast came from behind 14-9 and the end of the first quarter to take control. But Dineen hit a three at the buzzer to pull Prep to within one at 25-24 at halftime.
Dineen had a game-high 24 points for Creighton Prep, while Jasnowski finished with 16 points.
