Fremont's boys basketball team was looking for a way to shake off Lincoln Northeast Tuesday night and found it in the third quarter.
Guard Alex Hamilton and forwards Zach Myers and Garrett Cobb sparked a 16-3 third quarter for the Tigers (5-1) en route to a 63-43 win over the Rockets in the opening round of the Heartland Athletic Conference Boys Basketball Tournament.
The third quarter spree from Fremont limited Northeast to all three-points in the quarter from the free-throw line. With a 46-27 lead, the Tigers took off.
Utilizing a pick and roll style of offense, Fremont's inside game with Myers and Cobb took off and Hamilton's outside shooting was too much for Northeast.
Northeast kept it fairly close during the first half. After a 16-7 first quarter spurt from Fremont, the Rockets rallied on a 9-0 run behind Puot Kudhot, Jordan Schroer and Derek Hoodjer to tie the game up at 16.
The Tigers slowly distanced themselves and boost their lead to 30-24 at halftime behind a late three-pointer from Trevor Strong.
Hamilton led Fremont with 17 points, while Conner Niehaus and Cobb added 10 points in the win. Kudhot led the Rockets (2-4) with 11 points.
