Tobin Reinwald made use of his ability on the basketball court Tuesday afternoon. The 6-5 Lincoln High senior forward sparked an early run in the 1st quarter and scored 15 of his game-high 24 points in the first half to lead the Links to a 61-48 win over Lincoln North Star in the opening game of the Heartland Athletic Conference Boys Basketball Tournament at East High School.
The win sets up a matchup with Lincoln Southeast in the winner's bracket semifinals Wednesday afternoon.
Reinwald knocked down his first six shots and went 10-for-11 from the field in the game that helped the Links to a 16-2 lead in the first 4:30 of the contest, before Lincoln High took a 20-4 lead after the first quarter.
Lincoln High's transition game and defense helped the Links (5-1) open a 33-8 lead during the second quarter before leading 37-14 at halftime. With Reinwald the only Links player in double figures, senior guard Tommy Johnson added seven points, while Deondre White, John Harris, Vince Smail and veteran Dylan Flinn each scored six points in the win.
North Star (3-4) was led by Brandon Krause with 17 points and Creighton Morris added 13 points in the loss. The Gators play Grand Island in the loser bracket semi-finals Wednesday morning.
