Dominant. That's the one word you can use to describe how the Lincoln Christian boys basketball team played against cross-town rival Lincoln Lutheran Friday night. The Crusaders (3-0) got plenty of from their starters and reserves on the bench to cruise to a 77-47 win over the Warriors at the Lutheran Gym.
Austin Mathers sparked Christian early, scoring 11 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and sparking a 9-0 run overlapping the first and second quarters for a 19-7 lead. Josiah Pool contributed to that run and Sam Andrews provided the additional spark off the bench early. Both players scored 11 points a piece and helped the Crusader transition game stymie Lutheran's defense.
Christian led 38-20 at the half before their up tempo game exploded for a 24-point 3rd quarter helped by back to back baskets early from Ben Manley and capped off by a half-court shot at the buzzer from Pool to give the Crusaders a 62-33 advantage.
Manley added 10 points in the Christian win, while reserves Ian Hunt added 9 points and Aaron Erickson chipped in 8 points.
Lincoln Lutheran (2-2) was led by Eric Beckman with 14 points.
