Lincoln-----In the final 4:40 of Saturday night's boys basketball game at the Prasch Activities Center, Lincoln Southeast missed every shot they took and couldn't recover.
Omaha Creighton Prep's defense helped create problems for the Knights, as the Junior Jays pulled away to a 48-37 win. It's the sixth win in the past seven games for Prep (13-4).
Prep led 38-30 heading into the fourth quarter and picked up two early baskets from 6-5 center Brett Potter and guard Caleb Steffensmeier to extend their lead to 42-30.
Southeast went on a 7-0 run off a three from Conner Smith and a basket from Matt Hagerbaumer. Then, Taylor Price hit a basket to pull to within five at 42-37 with 4:40 left.
It would be more than four minutes before either team scored, as Taylor Stormberg hit a back door layup with two minutes left to go up 44-37. Stormberg hit four free-throws to seal the win in the final minute of the game.
Prep started out the game on a 5-0 start of a basket from Potter and a three from Steffensmeier, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Southeast stormed back with baskets from Conner Smith and Derrius Vick and a three from Sean Hill to tie the game up at 7 apiece halfway through the 1st quarter, before leading 13-11.
After being down 17-13 halfway through the 2nd quarter, Prep went on a 10-0 run courtesy of Scott Criss, Cole Martin and Steffensmeier before Southeast closed the gap to one with the Junior Jays leading 23-22 at halftime.
It's the second straight loss for Southeast (11-4), scoring only 69 points in two games. Defensively, both teams were able to limit the scoring of two top players. Price only had five points for Southeast, while Prep's senior guard Alex Hook was scoreless.
