Lincoln---Tommy Johnson happened to be in the right place at the right time. The 5-10 Lincoln Northeast point guard was looking to drive and dish off to teammate Dol Kutey, but got caught up in a Lincoln Pius X double team. Johnson was falling to the floor, when he tossed up the ball and it went through the hoop, giving the Class A 8th ranked Rockets a 48-46 come from behind win over Class B 5th ranked Lincoln Pius X at Bishop Flavin Gym Friday night.
It marked the 8th win in a row for Northeast.
Northeast (11-3) trailed 38-32 at the start of the 4th quarter, when Johnson hit a three to cut the deficit down to three. After Cole Kennett hit two free-throws to extend the Pius X lead to 40-35, Kutey connected on a shot from inside the lane to cut the deficit down to three.
Another basket from Kutey gave Northeast a 46-44 lead with 1:30 left in the game. Two free-throws from Trevor Johnson knotted the game at 46 with 45 seconds left. Tommy Johnson's desperation shot came with five seconds left.
Pius X dictated the game for much of the game. The Thunderbolts led 15-0 in the 1st quarter, behind hot shooting from Stuart Sucha, who had eight of his 14 points during that stretch. Northeast didn't score until Tommy Johnson hit a three with 1:15 left.
After leading 24-16 at halftime, Pius X sprinted out on an 8-2 run with Sucha and Jack Burt sparking the charge.
Kutey had 17 points to lead all scorers for Northeast, while Sucha had 14 points and Burt added 12 points for Pius X.
