Waverly----Most coaches have players hit 10 free-throws in a row before they go home for practice each day.  That might be the case for the Waverly boys basketball team, as free-throws helped seal the deal in a 47-44 win over Norris at Waverly High School Friday night.

The Class B 6th ranked Vikings (10-3) were down 42-40 with 1:22 left in the game when Derek Hilt hit a three to give the Vikings a 43-42 lead.  After a Norris turnover, Waverly guard Taylor Guenther was fouled and hit two free throws and Nate Callen drove the lane to score for the Titans to pull to within 45-44 with 30 seconds left.

Another Norris turnover gave Waverly the basketball back and Nigel Stephenson connected on two free-throws after being fouled with 22 seconds left to give the Vikings a 47-44 lead.  The Titans had several opportunities to score late and after missing some close shots, Waverly knocked the ball out of bounds with 0.1 seconds left.

An inbounds play was drawn up for Norris to quickly inbound and get a shot.  Waverly lined up on the Norris free-throw line and Jared Zysset inbounded to Darin Chaney who was open, but he threw the ball to the Waverly end of the floor instead of trying for a final shot.

Norris led 36-31 after three quarters behind center Craig Price before Waverly came back and outscored the Titans 16-8 in the fourth quarter.

Waverly led 24-23 at halftime, behind Tyler Evan's 9 point 2nd quarter.  He finished with 11 points, as did center Evan Kucera.  Stephenson added 9 points for the Vikings.  Price led all scorers with 16 points for Norris.
