01/17/2009 - Lincoln Northeast pulls one out, at The Swamp

Lincoln-  Lincoln Northeast pulled one out at The Swamp on saturday night.  The Rockets stayed tough through runs by the Navigators in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to hold off North Star.  Eventually, it came down to some big shots and key free throws in the last 6 minutes of the ball game to win 51-44.  Lincoln Northeast improves to (8-3), and Lincoln North Star drops to (5-6).
Lincoln North Star had some big three's from Hartley and Musiel early to get a 16-13, first quarter lead for the Navigator's.  Musiel though, after his two big three's in the 1st quarter finished with just those 6 points the rest of the game.  Northeast and North Star both found perks with there 2-3, 2-1-2, and 3-2 defenses.  North Star did an outstanding job of containing Dol Kutey down low.  Kutey was limited to only 4 points, after his 29 point performance against Grand Island.
One thing that hurt the Navigator's were the offensive rebounds, as they couldn't contain David Heim (6'4), Dol Kutey (6'6), and Sunday Wur (6'8) in the paint.  Lincoln Northeast doubled up North Star in the rebounding column, and prove to be tough inside the blocks.  Sunday Wur who had 8 points, proved to be a contributor with the offensive rebounding and a couple of 3-point plays he converted on.
It was a great crowd for Saturday Night High School Hoops at Lincoln North Star.  Even though it was an arch-town rival game, both teams played with a lot of class and both schools I give a fine hand with being so gracious toward each other.  Both squads helping each other up after scrambles to the floor.  You love to see that out of our high school athlete's these day's.  Even when we all know how big of a rival Lincoln Northeast and Lincoln North Star have become
