Sterling----A cold start to the game turned out to be a huge 1st quarter run for the Sterling boys basketball team.  The Class D-2 4th-ranked Jets (9-0) took off on an 8-0 run to start and cruised from there to a 56-30 win over Dorchester at Sterling High School Thursday night.

Jake Saathoff, Zach Lempka, Jese Salberg and Will Wirthele along with a full court trapping press, sparked the early run on their way to a 13-2 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Dorchester's only basket of the quarter came from close to the basket from 6-8 junior center Alex Walton with 4:39 left.

The Longhorns started chipping away at the Sterling lead early in the 2nd quarter, off of a basket from Brandon Bruha and free throws from Logan Morris.  But outside shooting from Brandon Nieveen, Jake Wirthele, Kyle Lowmack and reserve guard Austin Magill helped the Jets pull away further from Dorchester, leading 31-10 at halftime.

Sterling's lead went to 40-20 at the end of the 3rd quarter, as shots continued to fall for Lempka, who scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the 2nd half.

Walton led Dorchester (5-2) with 8 points and Brandon Zoubek added 7 points in the loss.

Dorchester 58, Sterling Girls 28

Full-court pressure from the Class D-1 9th ranked Longhorns forced turnover after turnover from Sterling.  Wendy Boller led all scorers with 15 points for the Longhorns, while Karmen Lawver added 11 in the win.  A.J. Magill hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for Sterling (3-7)
