Like many of you, I decided not to budget for a long-distance road trip for summer vacation this year because of high fuel prices. So, I'm spending much of my time off from work at home, getting some long-awaited work done with the house. But for the most part, I'm spending some time relaxing at home with my wife and kids.
It's nice not have to worry about covering news on the radio and calling games here on the website. But here in a few weeks, it starts all over again with high school football.
Yes, it's hard to believe that yours truly will be back spending Fridays at Seacrest Field, Waverly, Aldrich Field or Abel Stadium calling games and riding along the road to the championship to see who will walk away as the best in 2008.
Congratulations to Union Bank and Anderson Ford for both qualifying the State Legion Baseball tournament. The three games they played in the Area 5 tournament were ones that no one will ever forget.
Hats off to the Cornhusker Shooting Stars Bison Select girls basketball team and their 44-6 summer record, including their elite division championship of their own Battle on the Plains Tournament. They had to beat the Iowa Red Select, which featured 6 Division I recruits.
I'd like to acknowledge and say thanks to Lincoln Electric System, Union Bank, Trackside Bar and Waverly Keno and the Cornhusker Shooting Stars for their longtime commitment to supporting high school sports on Lincoln Prep Sports.com. They're back again to support all of our broadcasts for another year. We'd also like to welcome back our other fine sponsors and new businesses to the website.
I know this is a very short article, but my vacation has been the quiet point of what has been a very active summer. From covering tons of severe weather and Legion Baseball, to playing fast-pitch softball and watching summer basketball, there is no doubt the time off with my family will pay dividends for me in recharging my battery. I'm looking forward to another fun and exciting year of football, basketball, volleyball and baseball.
