Firth---Tyler Evans took matters into his own hands, but was seemingly quiet in his performance. The Waverly sophomore scored 24 points and helped lead the Class B 5th ranked Vikings to a 60-42 win at Class B 9th-ranked Norris Friday night.
Evans hit 8 shots in a row in consecutive attempts during a 1st half run. He wound up scoring 15 points in the first 16 minutes of the game. Andrew Palmer got the game started by scoring a lay-up right after tip off in the first 5 seconds of the game. He hit a three to give Waverly a quick 5-0 lead, before being held to only 10 points on the night, thanks to good defense from the Titans.
Norris went on a 6-0 run halfway through the 1st quarter and had a short-lived 8-7 lead, before Waverly took command and led 18-10 after one. Evans sparked a 13-4 run in the 2nd quarter before the Vikings took a 33-20 halftime lead.
The intensity from Norris was different in the 2nd half as the Titans came out gunning from three-point range, getting threes from Blake Huls, Drew Swanson and Cameron Dudley. Waverly's lead was at 47-35 heading to the 4th quarter, when Swanson hit another three to cut the deficit to nine and that's as close as the Titans would get in the game. Free throws from Easton Wenzel iced the game for Waverly in the final minutes. He finished with 8 points, while 6-5 junior center Evan Kucera had 7 points.
Hulls scored 15 points for Norris in the loss, while Swanson finished with 13 points before fouling out. Dudley also fouled out with 7 points.
