Lincoln----It's rare to see a high school basketball player score 20 points and have 13 rebounds in the first half of a game and come out a scoring machine in the second half. That was the case for Lincoln Northeast center Dol Kutey, finishing with 29 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Rockets (2-2) to a 65-55 win over Millard South Saturday night at the Ed Johnson Gym.
Kutey's performance was one of the best from a Northeast player in recent memory. His 20 points and 13 rebounds helped the Rockets to a 34-17 lead at Halftime. In the first half alone, Kutey scored on six straight possessions all against a strong and sizeable Millard South frontline with 6-7 Storm Throne, 6-5 Jared Meyer and 6-3 Eric Sitzman.
The Patriots (0-2) came out strong in the 3rd quarter, going on a 12-4 run to cut the deficit down to 38-29. While Kutey was kept quiet for the most part in the second half, his Rocket teammate Jordan Burt helped the Rockets defensively slow down a surge from Millard South and scored 7 of his 15 points in the 3rd quarter enroute to a 47-35 lead.
Sitzman led the Patriots with 15 points. Northeast was 23-of-40 from the floor for 57%, while Millard South was 22-of-61 for 36%, but shot 7-of-35 in the first half for around 20%.
