Lincoln---Lincoln Lutheran's Aaron Hedlund proved to Coach Joel Stoltenow just how clutch he can be for the Warriors. The 6-0 senior buried a three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the game, plus hit a free throw in the final seconds to give Lutheran a 47-43 home win Friday night.
Hedlund came through for the Warriors, after they went the last 6 1/2 minutes of the 3rd and the first minute of the 4th quarter without scoring a basket. Christian built up a 40-38 lead at that point, after trailing 26-20 at halftime. Hedlund nailed six free-throws in the final period and scored 9 points in the 4th quarter to finish with 17 points to lead Lutheran.
Christian's big man, 6-4 forward Jacob Gipson, led the Crusaders with 17 points, 13 of those coming in the second half. Gipson and Jamie Rexilius were pivotal in a 12-4 3rd quarter comeback, after LCS was outscored by Lutheran 17-6 in the second quarter alone. Rexilius finished with 10 points before fouling out halfway through the 4th, when things broke open for the Warriors.
6-6 senior center Matt Justus had 10 points off the bench for Lutheran. Justus and Micah Pomerenke were key to the inside and transition games for the Warriors. Pomerenke finished with 7 points. LCS sprinted off to a quick lead, when sophomore Ben Manley scored off a layup from the opening tip and another bucket was made by Rexilius enroute to a 14-9 Crusader lead after the 1st quarter.
