Lincoln---You could call the Lincoln Southwest boys basketball team pesky. More like scrappy. But the Silver Hawks couldn't contend with a 12-0 run from Omaha Creighton Prep, as the Junior Jays pulled away from a one-point game to a 64-44 win at Southwest Friday night.
Southwest came out strong early, jumping out to a 12-4 lead before Prep pulled back and tied the game up at 14 at the end of the 1st quarter, thanks to sinking 10 free throws. Prep's inside game was led by Matt Harmon, who finished with a game-high 20 points. Harmon had 10 points alone in the 2nd quarter to help the Junior Jays to a 30-22 lead. Southwest postman Chris Schmidt connected on five points of his 17 points late in the 2nd to pull Southwest to within four at 33-29 at halftime.
Forward Ross Kremer helped Southwest to a 38-37 lead in the 3rd quarter, but Harmon and John Karhoff boosted Prep to a 43-40 lead after three quarters. The Junior Jays then took off on the scoring run and never looked back, outscoring the Silver Hawks 21-4 in the final period. Prep's other big man, Brett Potter, scored 10 points, while the 6-8 Karhoff finished with 9, despite being in foul trouble in the first half.
